The Hook & Setting

Setting: Earth is destroyed overnight and the survivors are dropped into a galactic reality-show dungeon, with Carl, a Coast Guard veteran, arriving in his boxers with his ex-girlfriend's cat.

Tone: Dark comedy with real gore: profane, absurd and fast, with a sharp satirical edge on corporate entertainment. Expect violence and crude humor.

System premise: A game-style system hands out levels, stats, loot boxes and achievements, and every floor is broadcast to alien audiences and sponsors. The crawlers must descend floor by floor or die.

A LitRPG system: players gain levels, stat points, skills, spells and loot, while the dungeon's AI and its show hosts shape the rules and the audience's attention.

• Pacing: Book 1 covers only Floors 1 and 2 and is a self-contained setup. Goodreads averages rise in later books (Book 5 about 4.69, Book 8 4.60), but those are snapshots and 'where it clicks' is a reader judgement we have not sourced.
