I · The Main Plot
Where We Start
Carl and Donut arrive on Floor 8 after Prepotente's stunt skipped Floor 7. The floor is a replica of Earth as it stood on December 10th, just before the collapse; living beings are intangible memory ghosts and non-biological objects are solid.
Major Plot Points & Spoilers
- The first phase is a card-game battle using collectible totems (T'Ghee cards). In the second phase, squads must get keys from bosses that the System AI builds from crawlers' pasts.
- Carl realizes the floor is designed to trim the crawler population. Stairwells are destroyed, thousands of crawlers face death, and the Sky Portal lets many escape.
- Carl is exposed on the Shadow Boxer show to repressed memories, including his mother's suicide, his father's abandonment and his half-brother Asher. A hydra boss is made from the heads of Carl's dead loved ones.
- Samantha accidentally releases a demon from the Nothing. Minge, a level 225 demon, destroys the Desperado Club, and Amayon, a Prince of Sheol, takes over a city boss's body during the Demon Eviction.
- Sister Ines leads ex-convict crawlers in Havana and later channels the goddess Ysalte, a goddess of hopelessness, who is slain by a crawler totem atop a skyscraper.
- Anton dies after a Thorn Room choice resurrects the goddess Yemaya. Katia struggles with drug addiction and the Crown of the Sepsis Whore.
- Shi Maria, the Bedlam Bride, invades Carl in combat and forces him to tattoo her Eye on his chest. A 'Golden Combo' transformation leaves a sentient Eye of the Bedlam Bride tattoo binding her power to his soul.
- Carl and Donut use an Emergency Action Item to hold a galactic vote. Viewers overwhelmingly remove legal immunity for Faction Sponsors.
Where the Book Leaves Off
Floor 8 collapses and the survivors ascend toward Floor 9, with Shi Maria's Eye on Carl's chest and sponsors now legally killable.
