I · The Main Plot
Where We Start
Carl and Donut, with Mongo the velociraptor hatched, reach Floor 3 and must choose permanent races and classes. They enter the Over City, a devastated metropolis.
Major Plot Points & Spoilers
- Race and class choices: Carl takes the Primal race and the Compensated Anarchist class (explosives, traps, close combat). Donut stays a cat and becomes a Former Child Actor, which lets her choose a new specialty each floor. Mordecai becomes her Manager and can teleport to any safe room.
- Katia Grim, a shapeshifting doppelganger abandoned by her guide, joins the party.
- Carl is drawn into a third-party quest. Grimaldi, a level 85 Ringmaster city boss who became a Pestiferous Vine, controls circus performers with parasitic worms. Carl poisons the vine with his blood, then cures it to strike a deal with the producers.
- Tsarina Signet, a half-naiad elite NPC, summons a paper army with blood magic and tries to sacrifice Carl. Maestro also makes an assassination attempt.
- Miss Quill plots a genocide spell to reclaim the city, powered by her undead husband Remex, a Soul Leech Capacitor. Carl's dynamite breach kills her and the soul crystal becomes unstable.
- Carl seals the crystal in an indestructible Sheol Glass Reaper Case, 'Carl's Doomsday Scenario', a portable nuke. A controlled blast spares the city.
- Manasa, a cobra singer, is killed by an orbital pulse meant for Carl and Donut after a last-minute swap, sparking a diplomatic war.
- Borant uses its one-time veto to deny all surviving crawlers the Celestial Quest Boxes.
