I · The Main Plot

Where We Start

Dawn confirms to Jason and Farrah's friends that both are alive, and warns that they will arrive in about six months and bring the monster surge. Jason and Farrah land in a hurricane in the Sea of Storms, in the Storm Kingdom, and head for the capital, Rimaros.

Major Plot Points & Spoilers

  1. In Rimaros, Jason and Farrah register with the Adventure Society during the monster surge, get documentation of their resurrections from the church of Death, and meet Liara Rimaros, a leader of the anti-Builder taskforce. Jason sets up his cloud house in the town of Palisaros on the island of Arnote and invites the neighbors to a barbecue.
  2. At the barbecue, the diamond-rank Soramir Rimaros, founder of the Storm Kingdom, explains that Zara Rimaros claimed she had been engaged to Jason to avoid a political marriage. Jason is furious about being pulled into politics but agrees to play along so ordinary people are not hurt, in exchange for having his friends brought to him.
  3. On a supply-delivery route Jason kills an army of bone feasters and is attacked by the Order of Redeeming Light, and are rescued only when Liara's team steps in. Sophie's mother Melody Jayne turns out to lead the Order, which wins over fortress towns and 'purifies' them with clockwork cores. Humphrey's team stops a Purity ritual sacrifice in a valley, and 119 people from Earth arrive as outworlders, including Taika Williams and Travis Noble.
  4. Angered by the Rimaros family's lack of respect, Jason is calmed by Farrah, who demands that Soramir fetch his friends. Jason then goes to a Builder cult's astral space and compels cultists with his control of Builder magic, nearly tearing one apart before Shade stops him. The Builder offers to leave the Storm Kingdom if Jason is killed, and the Adventurers refuse. Dawn brings Jason's friends, and Stash names the team 'Team Biscuit'.
  5. In the One Day War, the Builder's flying cities attack Rimaros. Dawn destroys one with her single spell, and Liara's team smuggles a Travis-designed nuclear bomb into another, with Vesper Rimaros and Ledev dying to make it work. Jason stays on Arnote with Estella Warnock to defend the island against pirates.

Where the Book Leaves Off

After the One Day War the monster surge continues, and Jason finally starts going to therapy with Arabelle Remore. After learning that none of his family had trusted him enough to enter his spirit vault after he lost control of his aura in a nightmare, she convinces him to show it to his friends. He is profoundly relieved when they are all able to enter.
