I · The Main Plot

Where We Start

Mid-Tutorial, picking up from Book 1. Jake has a quest to defeat three more Beast Lords before he can fight the King of the Forest, and he is happily hunting for levels in dungeons. In another region of the Tutorial, the humans' turmoil has ended after a disastrous battle left almost everyone except the Metal Mage William dead.

Major Plot Points & Spoilers

  1. Jake hunts through the Lucenti Plains and the Great White Stag, then through dark tunnels (Dark Attunement, the Nest Watcher), the Valley of Tusks and a Horde Leader, working through the Beast Lords.
  2. He gets Dark Mana from the Nest Watcher's dungeon. The Nest Watcher leaves a 'Dark Bead' meant to take revenge on the King of the Forest.
  3. William and Jake meet ('William & Jake'). Intermission chapters follow Viridia, the Malefic Viper, Casper, Carmen, Noboru Miyamoto, Eron and Matteo.
  4. Jake is pulled to the King and offered the chance to leave without a fight. A test shot makes the King change his mind. The King is a level 136 D-grade and the first D-grade in the story.
  5. Jake uses items taken from the Beast Lords, among them a Seed of Entangling Roots, the Dark Bead of the Nest Watcher and a Corrupted Mooncore Shard, but the King's telekinesis and soul-damaging attack knock him out.
  6. As Jake loses consciousness his Primal Hunter Bloodline takes over and kills the King. He is the only Earth resident to kill the Tutorial's final D-grade boss.
  7. Tutorial rewards follow (three chapters). The rewards panel says the Tutorial's purpose went unfulfilled because only a single survivor walks out alive.
  8. Jake returns to Earth ('Homecoming', 'The Blue Marble') and is tied to a Pylon of Civilization. The remaining chapters cover the consequences and Jake's attempts to avoid responsibility ('Delegating (avoiding) Responsibilities', 'Construction Plans'), and end on 'How to Train Your Dragon Wings' and 'Freedom'.

Where the Book Leaves Off

The Tutorial is over and Jake is home, with a Pylon of Civilization under his name and wings. He is free to hunt Earth's monsters. The Book 3 blurb picks up with him avoiding the work of the first city on the planet.
