The Hook & Setting
Setting: A magical academy city, with a bookish student at its centre.

I · The Main Plot
Where We Start
Chapter 1, 'Good Morning Brother'. Zorian is woken by his little sister Kirielle on the morning he is due to catch the train to Cyoria for his third year at the Royal Academy. His parents are about to leave for Koth to visit his eldest brother Daimen, and his teacher Ilsa Zileti turns up at the house. Zorian is assigned the harsh Professor Xvim Chao as a one-on-one mentor, and the month of classes and a summer festival dance begins.
Major Plot Points & Spoilers
- Chapters 1-4: a normal month of school (Benisek's gossip, Taiven's offer to join a Dungeon job, classes with Zach, Kyron, Nora and Xvim, the school dance). At the dance an invasion of Cyoria begins with artillery magic and monsters. Zach teleports Akoja to safety and stays to fight a lich, Quatach-Ichl, who hits the two boys with a soul magic spell and blacks them out.
- Zorian wakes on the morning of the train again. He works out that time is resetting around the same date each month, tests when restarts happen (about 2 am per the wiki's Chronology) and starts using the repeats to study, learn from teachers and probe the invasion.
- Zach is absent from class for several early restarts, then turns up already strong and not fully aware of why. Zorian learns he is also looping, and that Zach's memory has gaps. Zach later kills the dragon mage Oganj, a feat the wiki says took him more than fifteen restarts.
- Zorian takes up Taiven's request to retrieve an item from the Dungeon, meets the Cyorian aranea, a colony of intelligent telepathic spiders, and agrees to carry their matriarch's memory packets from restart to restart in exchange for mind-magic lessons.
- Kael Tverinov and Kirielle are told about the loop. Kael tentatively identifies the lich's spell as soul meld and becomes a long-term ally.
- The aranea say Dragon Cultists are helping the Ibasan invaders free Panaxeth. Zorian spreads invasion rumors to the school, police and church and works with the aranea to wreck the attack. The loop runs to roughly two years by this point.
- Chapter 26 (end of Arc 1): the third time traveler, a figure in a red robe, reveals himself after learning of the aranea. He kills them permanently by destroying their souls, and Zorian only escapes by out-fighting him mentally, shooting him, and killing himself in a deadly shaft to restart. In the same chapter Zorian banishes Quatach-Ichl with a Kael-enchanted coin that triggers the lich's soul defenses.
Where the Book Leaves Off
Zorian restarts after fleeing the Red Robe. He knows there is a third time traveler who is hostile, who has just soul-killed the allies he had built up, and who can find him. The invasion is not solved and the cause of the loop is still unexplained.
II · Characters & Personal Progression
Romantic & Personal Status
No romantic relationship is confirmed in our sources for this arc. The wiki describes Taiven only as one of Zorian's former crushes, and Zorian's emotional bond that matters most here is with his sister Kirielle, whom he calls the only family member he likes. Anything beyond this is not verified.
Inner Circle Check-In
- Kirielle Kazinski: Zorian's nine-year-old sister who jumps on him to start every restart. He tells her about the loop in some restarts and starts to teach her magic. She is the only part of his family he likes.
- Zach Noveda: A classmate with huge mana reserves who is also stuck in the loop. His memory of how it started has holes, and his role is not fully explained in this arc.
- Kael Tverinov: A morlock alchemist, a recent addition to Zorian's class, who hears about the loop and works out the lich's spell. His enchanted coin is what drives Quatach-Ichl off.
- Taiven: A graduate and combat mage who leads Zorian into the Dungeon, which brings him to the aranea. She also teaches him combat spells in later restarts.
- Spear of Resolve Striking Straight at the Heart of the Matter: The aranea matriarch of the Cyorian web. She trades mind-magic training for the right to use Zorian as a carrier of her memory packets, and is soul-killed by the Red Robe at the end of the arc.
Key New Faces & Factions
A millennium-old lich and general leading the Ibasan invasion of Cyoria. He first appears in chapter 4 and is described by the wiki as honorable but brutal.
The third time traveler, in a blood-red robe with his face hidden. He feeds the invaders information, then wipes out the aranea and corners Zorian in chapter 26. His real identity is not revealed in this arc.
Ilsa is Zorian's teacher and a mentor figure, and Xvim is the harsh one-on-one mentor Zorian is assigned. In these restarts neither knows about the loop.
A young aranea instructor assigned to teach Zorian the basics of mind magic and telepathy.
A powerful dragon mage that Zach repeatedly fights and eventually kills in the loop.
III · End-of-Book Stats & Power Gains
Current Rank / Grade
Mother of Learning has no formal rank or grade system. The wiki's Chronology tracks a 'Reserves' figure for Zorian that goes from 8 at chapter 1 to 10, 11 and then 12 by chapter 22. The unit is not defined in our sources, though the wiki's Zorian page ties it to how many magic missiles he can cast in a row (8 at the start).
Dao / Path / Class Evolution
A shaping-focused scholar who starts learning mind magic because he is naturally 'Open' (psychic) and the aranea can teach him. No class or path system exists in this series.
Major Skill & Body Gains
- Combat basics (magic missile, shield, flamethrower) from Zach, then combat spells from Taiven.
- Shaping and alteration from Ilsa, spell formula from Nora Boole, and first lessons in alchemy from Kael.
- Basic mind magic and telepathy from the aranea (Spear of Resolve and Enthusiastic Seeker of Novelty), plus carrying memory packets between restarts.
- Divination from Ibery and Haslush, and a gun as a backup weapon (from the TV Tropes page).
IV · Extras: Empire, Gear & World State
Territory & Faction Upgrades
None. Zorian is a student working from his room in Cyoria. The alliance with the Cyorian aranea is his only organization, and it is lost at the end of the arc.
Signature Gear & Vessels
- A gun (the Red Robe shouts that no mage uses a gun) and Kael's enchanted coin that triggers a lich's soul defenses. No other signature gear is verified for this arc.
Ticking Clocks
- The Red Robe, a hostile third time traveler who can strike through the aranea network and has just shown he can kill permanently.
- The invasion of Cyoria on the day of the summer festival, backed by the Dragon Cult and a plan to release the primordial Panaxeth.
- The loop itself is unexplained, and Zorian does not know how many restarts he has or who started it.
