I · The Main Plot
Where We Start
Chapter 1, 'Well, That Was Unexpected': Corin rereads the final lines of Trials of Judgement, supposedly written by Tristan Cadence. In disbelief, he writes a reply asking for proof that it really is Tristan.
Major Plot Points & Spoilers
- Corin tries to confirm that the writer is really Tristan (Ch 1), then deals with special training, a mismatch and restricted attunements (Ch 2-4 titles: 'Special Training', 'Mismatch', 'Restricted Attunements').
- He weighs options, teams up ('Two Heads are Better than One') and overdoes it ('Overdoing It Just a Tad'), with sorcery scars and a recovery period (Ch 5-9 titles).
- Difficult questions, puzzle-room frustration and a run of tests ('A Persistent Hatred for Colored Square Puzzles', 'Third Time is the Charm', 'These Tests Are Never Fair', Ch 10-14 titles).
- Replacements join, then 'everything was on fire', shots are fired and everything that could go wrong does (Ch 15-18 titles).
- Emergency preparedness, a ballroom-dancing chapter, deep wounds and unlikely companions close the outline (Ch 19-22 titles). The wiki outline lists only 22 chapter titles and gives text for Chapter 1 only, so what happens in these chapters is not verified.
Where the Book Leaves Off
Final chapter is 'Unlikely Companions' (Ch 22 in the wiki outline). Its content is unverified. A review notes the ending is more concerned with setting up a spinoff.
