Book Recap
Beware of Chicken
Book 1 Recap· Released
TL;DR
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator, but he died and an outsider is now stuck in his body. Rather than chase arrogant masters, tribulations and bloodshed, he walks away to farm. Tilling a field is easy with the strength of ten men, and the Spirit Herbs he feeds his pet rooster have an odd effect on the bird. The book is a slow-life farming comedy in a xianxia world.

I · The Main Plot
Where We Start
Jin Rou, a cultivator who has died and been replaced by a transmigrator, has left cultivation behind to start a farm. The blurb gives the setup: a body with the strength of ten men, a field to till, a house to build, and a pet rooster. Which sect he left and where the farm sits are not stated in the blurb or the retail listing.
Major Plot Points & Spoilers
- Jin builds a house and works his first harvest, and his concerns are the size of the crop and the roof, not cultivation (publisher blurb).
- He feeds Spirit Herbs to his pet rooster, who then moves with unexpected grace. The blurb treats this as a joke, but it sets up the animals-as-cultivators premise of the series.
- He keeps teasing a girl from the nearby village, who glares at him. The blurb does not name her. The fan wiki ties the nearby village of Hong Yaowu to Hong Meiling, who becomes his wife, and dates her dowry to Volume 1, Chapter 51, so the relationship develops within this book.
- The wiki also places an evil Reaper Wolf spirit animal, the Wicked Blade, killed by Jin with a shovel in Volume 1, Chapter 4, and Shen Yu's first appearance in Chapter 16. We have not read the chapters, so we cannot verify the order of the in-between events.
Where the Book Leaves Off
Not verified. The retail blurb ends on a rhetorical question ('nothing exciting ... happens, right?'), and the wiki only places a Shen Yu 'Epilogue' scene in Volume 1. We cannot confirm the exact final scene.
II · Characters & Personal Progression
Romantic & Personal Status
Jin's wife is Hong Meiling by the end of Volume 1 per the fan wiki (her dowry is listed in Volume 1, Chapter 51). The exact chapter of the wedding is unverified.
Inner Circle Check-In
- Big D (Fa Bi De): The pet rooster who awakens after eating Spirit Herbs. The wiki gives his first appearance as Volume 1, Chapter 1 and calls him the first animal to awaken his Qi.
- Hong Meiling: The village girl from the blurb, per the wiki. She is clever and has medical training. Her feelings and the courtship beats are not verified chapter by chapter.
- Xong Gou Ren: Villager who asks to help on the farm in Volume 1, Chapter 25 and moves in (wiki).
Key New Faces & Factions
Daughter of the chief of Hong Yaowu, per the wiki.
Powerful elder who took in the original Jin Rou; first appears in Volume 1, Chapter 16 (wiki). Allegiance in this book is unverified.
Reaper Wolf spirit animal that had plagued the Azure Hills for 300 years, killed by Jin with a shovel in Chapter 4 (wiki).

Current Rank / Grade
Not verified. Jin is described as a cultivator who is not interested in cultivating, and the wiki's realm timeline is not tagged to Volume 1 in our cache.
Dao / Path / Class Evolution
Jin deliberately abandons the martial path for farming. The book gives no formal realm or technique names in our sources.
